We were invited to stand in for the Noda Rep Ann Platten to see the play in Clacton.

This is a very wordy play set in the local Golf Club, a supurb set here. We are watching Barry West   (John Thompson) practicing his drive in spite of the limited Green, he makes us believe it is full  length . Enter the secretary of the club  Simon Weaver (Keith Sippitt) criticising even the way the members are dressed. He is especially critical of Shaun Potter (Nick Armitage) who appears in his jeans and an ill fitting top,  and cap, which he is continually re-arranging.  Keith’s wife  Laura Weaver (Lisa Winterford) long suffering complaining that while Simon is away the house is flooded and his mother has been taken to hospital is trying to persuade her husband to take some time off to see to the problems, to no avail.  Tiffany Jennings (Claire Townley) give some glamour to the piece taking care of the catering facilities making some awesome sausages and meat pies. A very feisty girl here.

Rosemary Sturgess   plays Fran Jefferies a suspected lesbian member who is very popular with the group and turns out to be particularly keen on Barry West – so what is her gender?

Tragedy strikes as Keith’s beloved car is trashed and who knows who is responsible.

First night went off with no major  problems. It was a shame they did’nt have a larger audience, but it was first night.  Excellent pace and comedy, and we must forgive some first night nerves which would have accounted for the few prompts.

Well done to director Alex Bass with his first solo venture.
