This farce was set in a village hall, and for all of us who have spent many an hour rehearsing in something similar, you could recognize some of the events that took place. Confusion reigned when four very different groups all turned up on the same night. Some of the attendees took pity on the Vicars wife, responsible for mixing up the bookings, and ended up agreeing to take part in a pantomime instead. Ann Smith was very good as the down-trodden and completely batty Vicars wife and was so convincing that you didn’t know whether you wanted to hug her or shake her. The over-bearing Guide leader played by Meg Dawson made me very glad that I had never been one. I enjoyed Gaynor Smith’s laid back portrayal of one of the badminton team who becomes a Principal By instead and David Wright as the other voice of reason in the team. The antics came from Richard Nielsen and Hilary Jones as the philandering husband and long suffering wife and Jennie Hall as the femme fatal. Added to the mix was an aging Lothario who was really a Mummy’s boy played by David Verrinder and Roy Meddings played Leonard Trotter who was an expert on everything imaginable with a slide show to boot. I have to say that I was confused at times but that’s a farce for you.
