Our House is the Theats latest production and what a fun packed evening it has been! The musical features music from the 70’s/80’s band Madness. The story tells us about sixteen year old Joe Casey and his struggles with two possible pathways in his life …
The production has been superbly directed by Mark Walker; it was staged well, was perfectly cast and had a terrific pace throughout. The musical direction by Barbara Hockey was excellent and she has obviously worked really hard with what must have been a very difficult score and along with her seven-piece band provided great backing for the company throughout the show. The choreography from Katrina Rufeea was outstanding, featuring some of the iconic Madness moves; and her high energy routines were absolutely breath taking!
The leading role of Joe Casey was outstandingly played by Daniel Fortune. He has an amazing voice and injected lots of personality into what was a perfect role for him. The role of Sarah was beautifully played by Katie Britton she has a lovely voice and lots of charm. The part of Dad was very well played by Alan Galway who was on and off the stage in many interlocking scenes. Julie Paris as Kath Casey had lots of confidence and had a really good Irish accent which was sustained well even when singing. Hobz Clarke made a very good impression on me as Lewis, which is his debut appearance with the Theats. Charlotte Victoria Smith as Billy and Samantha Wiles as Angie both gave very good performances and had lots of enthusiasm. Jake Turner was excellent as Reecey as was Terry West as Mr Pressman. Martin Brown had very good comic timing as Emmo and was a performance that I really enjoyed. A good, confident performance came from Tom Arnold as Callum. Carly Walker showed a promising talent for comedy as Julie. The ensemble for Our House was amazing and the entire company worked well together with tremendous energy and enthusiasm. Well done to you all.
The set for Our House was excellent and managed well. The props were well made and utilised. The costumes were all very good and of a high standard. The lighting quality was excellent throughout the show. The sound quality was hampered by substandard and poorly maintained equipment by the theatre which was not the fault of the company and in no way spoilt the quality or enjoyment of the show.
Congratulations to all at the Theats for this energetic, foot-tapping, fun packed show that made us all want to get up and join in!
