I have always been a fan of the music of “Madness” the Group and I was looking forward to their award winning musical “Our House”. I was not disappointed! The show is a mixture of great music and a fascinating story. Pilkington Musical Theatre Company certainly achieved the atmosphere required for this show with some good performances from the mainly youthful cast.
Harry Moore as Joe and Hannah Alexander as Sarah were a very believable couple and their energy and enthusiasm shone through. Danny Hughes as Reecey impressed with his characterization as the villain of the piece. I felt that diction was poor from some of the other principals with much of the dialogue indistinct, not helped by ineffectual sound, at times. Direction and choreography could have been better, far too many straight lines in the ensemble pieces. The more mature principal actors showed their experience marred only by weak singing voices. I was particularly impressed with the musicians of the orchestra and they seemed to enjoy playing this particular score and were an integral part of the evening. Stage crew, wardrobe and lighting did a sterling job. It always amazes me that with only one technical rehearsal all of these various components come together for opening night. I did enjoy this evening and from the reaction of the audience around me this is another successful production from this well established company. Thank you all for your very warm welcome.
