Our Day Out

“Our Day Out” is a play with music and songs from the pen of Willy Russell which more than achieved  CADOS’s usual high standard,here the audience was treated to an excellent production that included a large talented cast of both adults and young people.This was a very funny play but at the heart of it is an important social message which Russell highlights, he examines and challenges our preconceived ideas and shows how we treat and label children who don’t have the best start in life and  are written off before they are given a chance to form aspirations for their future.

I think it would be unfair to pick out individual performances from the cast because of its size and the many excellently played roles with varying background stories in this production. All the cast worked hard displaying lots of energy and loads of enthusiasm working well together as a team with no weak links. Diction pace and clarity of words were very good meaning the story and the action could be followed very easily by the audience. There were some very funny scenes and one which caught the attention of the audience was when the children decided to take the animal’s home from the zoo, the animals were live and included chickens, rabbits, lizards and even a tiger(not live) as well as other species. The Songs were sung in character very well both when in groups and also as solo’s to backing tracks which were played at just the right level, so well done to Musical Director Paul Carr.

The set, staging and lighting were excellent but there were a couple of small glitches with the sound but this did not detract from the performance or the audience’s enjoyment, well done to the stage crew and all backstage workers

Congratulations to Director Kate Burke, Producer Kath Townsend all the cast and back stage crew for an outstanding production and a very entertaining evening. Thank you for inviting us we thoroughly enjoyed our evening hope to see you again soon.
