Once in a while a play comes along which is totally different from all the rest, and this was the one. Trinity Players members Jane Aston and Garry Simmons contacted Roy Clarke who wrote the original television series and asked if they could write a stage adaptation of his show. Permission was granted and after months of research they came up with a very funny play. As this was the premier of the production the audience entered the theatre by walking on a red carpet and having their photographs taken. When we saw the set on stage the attention to detail was outstanding, with the shop bike and the till, which at one point grabbed Granville by ‘his dangler. Besides co-writing the production, Garry lead the company as a very good Arkwright. His diction and stutter were perfect. Garry was well supported by the very funny Jon Hall as Granville who had to all the problems of working for his uncle. Mary Singh, whose characterisation was spot on, played Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. These three principals were well supported by the remainder of the cast who came into Arkwright’s for all their daily shopping. I enjoyed the cameo roles of Linda Turner, Leigh-Ann James as Mavis and Julie. The audience also enjoyed Jon’s interpretation of ‘Singing in the Rain’.
Cast and audience alike enjoyed Jane Aston’s production, assisted by Aimee Potter.
Trinity, this was a night to remember. Well Done!
