One Is Too Many - 21st September 2019

Today’s NODA trip was to Across The Boards' One Act Play, "One Is Too Many," which was written and directed by Anna Cross. This small cast of just for performers used this one act play to deliver a very strong and effective, thought-provoking message about human trafficking and slavery. I have to say that the message resounding from this play really hit home to the small but very appreciative audience tonight. I particularly liked the question and answer session at the end of the show which had all four of the cast come back on to stage and answer questions regarding human trafficking and the characters within the play. Tia Hodson played the character One and gave a very strong, clear and confident delivery of a scared girl who had been stolen and sold into human trafficking. Projection was good with all lines clearly performed and she had a lovely accent and clear annunciation throughout the whole piece. Lola Connor-Emmitt played Emma, this little actress has a dynamic way of delivering all her lines and her character is strong and held throughout the whole piece. She had fantastic eye contact with the audience ensuring that the message she was delivering throughout her script was strong and effective. She sometimes had a tendency to deliver her lines slightly quickly which made it a little hard to hear a couple of the words, but this is me being very picky of this talented young actress and I have to say I enjoyed the performance very much. Aimee Burrows played Sophia. Sophia was a strong, confident character who was one of the more experienced characters within this human trafficking hell! Aimee delivered her lines with confidence and her projection was strong even during the softer, more gentle parts of her script, you could hear everything clearly. Matthew Holton was the single male performer in this cast and he played James. His delivery of this difficult character was portrayed with tenderness and thoughtfulness. His character was a victim of physical abuse, which is a very difficult role for any age of performer to portray and I have to say that he did this very well with the delivery of all of Matthew's lines being clear and confident - well done.

Anna Cross was the creator and Director of this one act play and she has done a fantastic job at creating a thought provoking script that delivers, at times with shock, a very important message.  I would like to congratulate her on a job very well done to bring across a very hard hitting message and delivering it through four young performers.

This one act play will be featured at Lowther Pavilion Theatre in the One Act Play festival coming up just next week on the 29th of September. The message from the play that Anna has created resounded with the audience, with people leaving the auditorium discussing the matter which is exactly what her mission has been - to raise awareness about this horrific and current issue. Well done Across the Boards Theatre Company

I would like to take this opportunity to assist Anna with spreading the information regarding human trafficking and slavery by posting the website www.unseenuk.org and also the phone number if you suspect anything at all 0303 040 2888

Thank you for your hospitality and I look forward to your next production as always.
