The young cast had an amazing amount of dialogue to learn for this production and they all did extremely well.

The story of the lovely Mr and Mrs Dearly acted by Evan Pardoe-Mathews and Anna Clarke and their beloved Dalmatians Pongo and Mrs Pongo played by Louis de Rohan and Ellie Weaver, was based on the film of the same name. The Dearly’s were acted as gullible and slightly naïve about the intentions of the aptly name Cruella De Vil played by Megan Davies. Megan was very good as the selfish and cruel furrier’s wife who covets the skins of the beautiful Dalmations and so sets out to steal them. Megan’s pacing the stage was slightly distracting but she did get her character across and as she had loud and clear diction she could get away with it. Unfortunately some of the dialogue was lost as other members of the cast looked away from the audience, but we did manage to get the gist of it.

Maisie Clay as Nannie Cook on the other hand was very loud (in a good way) and we could certainly hear her. She was very comical and played her role very well. The other comical antics of Cruella’s Henchmen Saul and Jasper played by Aeron McMillan and Laura Browne were very entertaining and their costumes and makeup certainly did the trick too.

The stage was very simply set and the use of a back projector provided a different scene effect, which could work well except that the portrayed picture is displayed across each of the characters bodies which spoilt the effect. Overall the show was very enjoyable.
