It is always a refreshing change when you have the opportunity to see a ‘home grown’ production and Lloyd Hawkins should be suitably proud of what he has achieved with this, his first pantomime as both Writer and Director (and indeed appearing as King Runble).
Lloyd’s idea of taking a number of well-loved pantomimes (Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Cinderella) and weaving them together with a strong set of actors kept the proceedings fresh, light and pacey with the jokes of a suitably obvious and ‘pun-rich’ quality ideal for strong physical humour with only the occasional miss-fire.

The cast from principal to chorus and Rebecca’s Dance Studio Dancers combined seamlessly to provide an excellent afternoon’s entertainment.  Michelle Noble provided a light and convincing Fairy Honeysuckle with Joanne Lassmans a suitably ‘evil’ Poison Ivy.  Vanessa Lassmans delivered great quality to her portrayal of Dandini and Melanie Dexter was just right as Igor.
The other principals Lloyd, Debbie Saville, Kodi Cunningham and Izzy Saul all provided great support as did Emma Miller and Chaneice Howson as ‘Girl and Boy’.  It was, however, as should always be the case in pantomime, the Dame and Fool (Keith Rider and Steve Rowan) drove the comedic heart of the production throughout the afternoon and led the audience participation with great humour and enthusiasm.

Choreography was especially strong throughout the afternoon and particular praise goes to both choreographers for blending their styles so that the production felt like one whole.  The dance breaks were both high quality and obviously fun to do judging by the energy and enthusiasm of all involved.

It is often the case that a pantomime is performed to a backing track but to my delight this was not the case here and David and his 6 piece band added significantly to the production providing great support and an excellent balance to the on-stage performers.
Many thanks to all at WLOS for a very warm welcome front of house and congratulations- especially to Lloyd on this his first Pantomime.  I am sure there will be many more and I look forward to seeing them.
