Once upon a time . . . a theatre group presented a pantomime . . . and a jolly good time was had by all! It opened with every conceivable panto baddie attending a big meeting of NITWITS (Nastily Immoral, Terribly Wicked and Incredibly Troublesome Society), hosted by the most fearful Witch Evelyn, played with great enthusiasm by Kim Samson. All were attempting to stop the wedding of Snow White’s son, Prince Marvellous, to Cinderella’s daughter, Princess Lottie! From then on every single known fairy tale character appeared on stage and we were then whisked through Neverland, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the Seven Dwarfs’ Diamond Mine, and TV programmed “Millionaire”! The Prince (Lewis Thoms) and his lovely Princess (Abbey Adams) made a handsome couple, and they were ably backed in the comedy stakes by John McSkimming as a scampering Dame, Gertie the Cook, with a passion for silly Mike Burns (Jack). Audrey and George Doherty were the idiotic, knockabout duo of Nik and Nak, the Court Jesters, who made a great rapport with their young audience. The show moved along very slickly and the very large company of adults, plus the many young children, were all well drilled in their stage moves, effectively seen when they all spilled off the stage into the audience. It was fun for all and, oh yes . . . at the end of the show . . . everyone lived happily ever after!
