The opening was well executed with Oliver Bartlett (Oliver) confident with his acting, singing and diction; Sue Tregoning (Widow Corney) and William Hann (Mr Bumble) were well suited to their roles and gave us a most enjoyable “I shall scream”; Danny Kendrick (Fagin) showed us an impeccable portrayal of this favourite and loveable rogue; Finn Cranston (Artful Dodger) and William Spring (Charley Bates) were confident with good acting and clear diction; John Carter (Mr Sowerberry) with Gail Thomas (Mrs Sowerberry) provided both light and shade with their performance; Jody Ridgwell (Noah Claypole) and Gemma Collinson (Charlotte) giving good support. Lucy Norfolk’s (Nancy) Oom Pah Pah was well staged without too much distraction from those around her and was well supported by Emily Hurley as Bet. Dan Curtis (Bill Sykes) fulfilled the nasty threatening character with confidence. The other principal parts were portrayed well. The Workhouse Orphans/Fagin’s Gang were excellent with both singing and acting and could be clearly heard. The whole show was supported well by the Ensemble with their singing and choreography.
Congratulations to Lynne James and all involved in making this a very enjoyable production to watch.
