An impressive, atmospheric opening workhouse set established the scene for the whole show.
In the title role of Oliver, came a fine performance by Dominic Wood. He was confident in every aspect of performance, clarity in voice, acting and winning over a sympathetic audience. Bailey West as Dodger looked the part and had all the brashness and volume which is called for in the role. A delightful portrayal of Nancy by Abigail Pidgeon, superb vocally, received appreciative applause. Good supporting roles were given by Lewis Haycock, a rather clean looking young Fagin, and John Paxton as a menacing Bill Sikes. Jack Draper as Mr Bumble, in tandem with Claire Collishaw as Widow Corney, provided the comedy element, along with Mr and Mrs Sowerberry, played by Rob Byatt and Liz Woolley in a humorous cameo scene at the undertakers.
The workhouse boys and the company chorus were in their element, and the highlight for me was the `Who Will Buy` scene. Visually good and superb vocally.
Good Band, good set and costumes, and a good house, who could ask for more?
