‘Oliver!’ has always been a ‘feel good show’ with songs that everyone knows and Tamworth Musicals production was no exception.
With a good basic set and stand out costumes, this sell out audience, on opening night, really enjoyed the production.
Louise Baldwin gave us a very convincing Nancy – lovely voice – her rendition of ‘As long as he needs me’ had the audience cheering, as did ‘Opm-Pah-Pah’ (nice to see the longer version used). She had great support from Verity Pugh as Bet. Bill Sikes (Will Lock) was as menacing as ever and how the audience booed him. James Fellows played the lovable Fagin, his costumes and mannerisms were just superb. Great acting and singing.
Andrew Britton as Mr. Bumble has a great stage presence and what a powerful voice, ideal for this role. He was joined by Becky Easen as Widow Corney, they worked well together as did Mr. & Mrs. Sowerberry (Emma Neville and Rob Travis-Anderson. The remaining principals, too many to mention gave great support.
On the evening I attended the show, the team of children I saw where ‘Scallywags’ who were front and centre and going with the talent on display that night then Tamworth Musical is in safe hands for many years to come. Alfie Macbeth played Oliver and did so with some great acting and singing. Logan Hewins played Artful Dodger who played it with a mischievous charm. Great support was given to them by the rest of the team and ensemble.
There was great musicality throughout this production and the two directors should be proud of what they have achieved.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the production, from front of house staff to the principals. A great night’s entertainment.
Thank you for the invite.
