Old King Cole the Panto? My, do Golborne St Thomas like to give themselves a challenge and they always seem to do such a great job. Okay the script wasn’t the best but what they did with it was great. The enthusiasm and energy from every single cast member was such a delight to watch.
The production team led by director Alison Eaton and assisted by Gary Williams, chose a strong line up of principals including Rachael Lyon as Princess Melanie and Sarah Hutchinson as Prince Michael both acting and singing their way to what youd expect from your leading boy and girl. Lord Chaimberlain played by Andrew Marsh, stole every scene he was in, the portrayal of the character and his comic ability was impeccable. In the title role, Kevin Williams as the king lived up to expectations delivered with bags of humour.
The performance of the night for me came from Keith Wilde as Queen Matilda, the Panto Dame. Keith had a fantastic relationship with everyone on stage and had the audiences attention every time he was on stage. His ad libs were just brilliant and soon put the lippy scouts well and truly in their place. His costumes were loud and extravagant – everything a panto dame should have. Brilliant!
Two other performances of note came from Boris and Horis played by Danny Murray and Johnathan Kennady; Golbornes very own Ant & Dec! They will probably admit themselves to not having the best singing voices however what they did have was heaps of stage presence, tons of energy and comic ability to make the kids laugh – “jobs a good un”
The rest of the principals all stepped up and delivered bringing lots of twists and turns to the plot with lots of fun and energy.
The song choices were all appropriate and kept the audiences attention and even had me singing along and matched with good choreography which was well executed.
The Company did a sterling job, performing with such enthusiasm, the young children deserve a special mention – they were just fantastic and too too cute!
The costumes were wonderfully bright and colourful and dressed the set beautifully.
Overall a really great production which was enjoyed by everyone – and that’s what its all about! Congratulations Golborne St Thomas.
