What a lovely farce written by Lynn Brittney.
As I entered All Saints Church, the stage had been transformed into a great set of the sitting room of an old people’s home. A lot of work had gone into this to made it workable, and it was dressed so well, praise goes out to Jim Gilbourne, Glen Morris, and R Smith for set design. Perfect!
Jim Gilboune, Director, you took nine older actors (can I say that?) then I thought of myself being old as well… yes! From the start I knew what they were going through...I have never seen this farce before and what a loverly concept it is. All older actors doing their utmost to remember so many lines, Kathryn Clark (prompt) you had a job on your hands, did it matter? No, it made the play even funnier. I won’t bore you with the plot. Because we lost it at times, who cares!
Actors Roger Peacock, Mike Harris, Diane Letchford, Margaret Coniam, Tina Venus-Coppard, Geoffrey Bowe, Jools Clark, Clive Mailing, Linda Crawford, Joyce McEvoy, and Director Jim Gilbourne. You all played your part to best of your ability and I loved it so much, and so did your audience. At one point in the play, you were all groping for lines and ad libs took over, but Kathryn brought you back, thankfully. I’m sure director Jim was pulling his hair out, don’t worry Jim they all did you proud. I want more of this!!.
To sum up, with great performances from all the actors (yes, I said great) and perfect direction by Jim and lighting and sound by Steve Halcrow. This play was hilarious and a joy to watch. I so much enjoyed my afternoon with you all.
Thank you, Hempstead Players, for inviting me I LOVED IT..!!!!
