Oh What A Lovely War! This is not a conventional musical and was born out of numerous interviews with men who had served in the war and also from the songs compiled in a book entitled ‘Tommy’s Tunes’. It is not a favourite show of mine as I find it very disjointed but I must say that The Mellow Dramatics did a fantastic job with it.
The ‘MC’ (Natasha Ingham) who started the show off was just right - clear, precise and very watchable. Natasha took us through the various scenes and sketches with great confidence and provided an excellent link between the various sections of the show.
The simple set and costumes added enough variety and interest and the props were simple but effective. The director obviously understood the show very well and was able to bring out the humour and the poignancy within the piece.
The ensemble singing was excellent and they delivered the songs and choreography with great enthusiasm. The whole company was obviously enjoying themselves on stage.
Well done to all involved on a lovely piece of theatre
