~~On 4th October 2014, Circle Players celebrated their 80th Anniversary and what a production they chose to celebrate with. Anne Troman’s production told the story of the First World War told through music and word. With over 30 people on stage, most of the society, the show was sometimes funny, sometimes sad but the audience were singing along to those well-known songs. I enjoyed the small item at the beginning where some of the cast came into the audience, found out who had a birthday and one of the cast appeared with a present for them. A nice touch. The set consisted of black rostra, and that was all this production needed. This may be a drama society but they sure can sing as well. Kevin Boyd on keyboard and Ray Vale on percussion provided music. Anne closed the production in a very poignant manner with the cast opening up a large red poppy which was placed in the spotlight as the cast very quietly left the stage. Not a dry eye in the house.
Well done Circle Players and here’s to the next 80 years.
