If the title of the concert was a factual informational statement by the society then I’d have to agree with them. This was ‘my’ kind of music. With a selection of over 30 big choral numbers and solo/duets from no fewer than 17 block buster musicals this was a splendid evening’s entertainment from the members of Walkerville MS.

A tastefully decorated stage was the background to enhance the even more tastefully dressed performers resplendent in their predominately black and white theme with sparkling enhancements of bow ties, waistcoats and scarves. The staging was well lit with multi coloured lighting floods whilst sound was crisp and clear with all soloists perfectly audible.
Music was in the very capable hands of Peter Allsopp whose duo of himself on keyboards and Peter Foster on percussion gave a rich sound to the music, no more so than the two instrumental solos from the keyboard played by Peter A that demonstrated his talents.
Choreography was in the capable hands of Helen Wilson whose six dancers were a pleasure to watch especially in the number “We’re in the Money” from 42nd Street.

Like any concert, soloists and duo’s were plentiful from the multi-talented members and it is unfair to single anyone out but, nevertheless, I will. Stand out performances from Sharon Gould singing “Tell Me it’s not True” and “I Don’t know how to Love Him” from Blood Brothers and Jesus Christ Superstar respectively; Lisa Givens’ “Almost Like Being in Love” from Brigadoon (my favourite musical); and finally Jim Cowper’s magical rendition of “I Am what I Am” and “Best of Times” from La Cage Aux Folles were the ‘show stoppers’ for myself.

Well done to the co-directors of Ann Ranson, Alan Tomkins and the members of Walkerville MS for a wonderful evening’s entertainment.
