The Blackpool and Fylde Light Opera Company have been performing in the Blackpool area for 67 years and have produced a wide variety of shows ranging from The Student Prince to this year’s 9 to 5 The Musical.Tonight’s show was an exciting mixture of past and present songs, routines and excerpts performed with great enthusiasm and energy by the wide range of talented performers involved in the Society. The evening opened with a slick routine from 42nd Street and ended with another equally polished routine from Sister Act the Musical.
The Production Team had worked closely together to give us a night to remember. Nikita Coulon and Joe Booth, Producers had obviously chosen a good selection of song and dance numbers and Choreographer Danielle Woodhouse had created some innovative routines.Musical Director, Dave Thomas, led a very talented quartet of musicians who played most of the musical numbers, only occasionally were appropriate backing tracks used. There had been great attention to detail and authenticity in the choice of costumes, giving the audience a flavour of each show. Excellent Lighting and Sound enhanced the performance of each of the 22 show selections. It was encouraging to see the choice of some of the more modern shows, which the Society may well consider producing in the future, Waitress, Hamilton and The Wedding Singer.
It was pleasing to see and hear many of the more experienced society members, normally part of the ensemble, showing just as much commitment, enthusiasm and immaculate performance as the young members. I liked the fact that previous Choreographers who have worked with the society in the past were acknowledged in the programme.
I always enjoy my visits to this talented company and I look forward to their next production. Thank you, once again, for the very warm welcome to my wife and myself.
