The action of the play took place over several days in three locations, on a cleverly designed set which was well constructed and sturdy. Props and costumes were authentic. Lighting effectively isolated each section of the stage when in use and excellent Sound effects were always on cue.

Harriet, played by Anna Phipps, was a feminist book publisher who was running a competition to find a new female author. Unfortunately she chose as winner, a manuscript that was submitted by Leonard (Steve Emerson) under a female pseudonym. Of course this caused all sorts of awkward telephone conversations and resulted in Leonard becoming “Myrtle”!  Steve made a hilarious lady – in fact his comic timing was excellent no matter what sex he was!! Anna had the difficult straighter role, portraying the efficient business woman while conveying her disappointment in the male of the species! She did this very sympathetically, adding humour with a straight face! Adding to the mayhem was Trevor McLucas as Leonard’s elderly father Gus. As confused but aging lothario, Trevor was well cast – his hesitations and facial expressions kept the audience in fits of laughter. Leonard’s daughter Dee Dee was played by imported talent Becky Miskimmon. Dee Dee was delightfully in league with her grandfather and her teenage relationship with both him and her father was entirely convincing. I cannot fail to mention stage manager David Johnston, who appeared briefly towards the conclusion as a (very) bewildered neighbour!
