From start to finish, this was a feel good production, well staged by Sutton Arts Theatre.
With good back projections, colourful costumes and a well rehearsed cast this was a sure fire hit for this theatre group.
Richard Millward as Mr. Maddens and Dexter Whitehead as Mr. Poppy (also the nephew of Head Teacher Mrs Bevan played by Sarah Stanley) led this talented group of adults and children well; they knew exactly how to interact with this sell out audience well. Dexter, as Mr. Poppy took the role of narrator at the start of the production and told us the tale of Mr. Maddens, Jennifer (Sophie McCoy) and Gordon Shakespeare (David Thane) and what happens to them over the course of time. Will Mr. Maddens keep his promise and stage a Nativity play at the school and will a Hollywood producer turn up to see it as he tells the children.
Great support for the three main characters came from the remainder of the principals and both the senior and junior ensemble. There is just not enough space to mention all this talented cast.
The sound and lighting was good and even when the fake fire alarm went off nothing would deter from the performance.
Many congratulations to all at Sutton Arts, back stage and front of house
Congratulations to Emily, you should be very proud.
