Rugby Operatic Society performed the classic My Fair Lady, which tells the story of Eliza Doolittle who is reluctantly persuaded to participate in the experiment devised by Colonel Pickering and Henry Higgins to improve her life chances.
There was a fantastic principle line up consisting of Rex Pogson (Henry Higgins) who commanded the stage and role excellently equally matched with Peter Brooks in the role of Colonel Pickering.
Gracey Spring again showed how diverse she can be and her role of Eliza was a pleasure to watch.
Stuart Esworthy played Alfred P Doolittle, capturing the essence of the character with ease. Benjamin Wellicome took on the role of Freddy Eynesford Hill which was perfectly played. Elizabeth Brooks as Mrs Pearce and Tricia Davis as Mrs Higgins were ideal in the roles.
The remaining principle cast of Chris Parmenter (Zoltan Karpathy and Harry), Anne Boulton (Mrs Eynesford Hill), Liz West (Queen of Transylvania), Lucy Lee (Mrs Hopkins), Neil Roberts (Lord Boxington) and Sue Beckett (Lady Boxington) all made the most of their cameo roles.
The principle cast together with the chorus both young and old has excellent vocal ability and the choreography was excellently delivered.
The set, costumes, sound and lighting added to the performance.
The constraints of performing in a school theatre did not detract the audience too much as the cast captured you in Edwardian London with comedy in all the right places creating an enjoyable performance.
