Following a very warm welcome from Broad-Way Players we were escorted into the Seagull Theatre auditorium. This compact but fully working theatre is the ideal space for small groups like this one to use. This concert style show, containing 32 songs, kept us well entertained as we skipped from place to place and ventured into many different periods of history, all with the aid of a time travelling car.
The group of 14 like minded people (Alice Sheppard, Ashley Gooch, Charlotte Mickley, Connor-Lee Barwick, Ian Gooch, Jackie Hensley, Jamie Culham, Jane Porter, Kelly
Sheppard-Jones, Oliver Dunn, Sarah Meers, Scott Newman, Susan Hardy and Terry Chitty), who are “all inclusive”, embrace what is community theatre and their only goals are to entertain and have a good time doing it.
Singing and dancing to tracks, every person on stage was giving everything they had in all the ensemble numbers but more especially in their solo pieces. The group must be
applauded as everyone sang a solo and that requires a confidence that comes from being well supported. With costume changes for every set the evening became even more
impressive.
It would be wrong to single out any one person from this show as they performed as a team and that is exactly what they were, a strong team. Every song was sung out of the original context and used in some very different and unusual situations. The dance routines were all geared to the group’s ability and this meant they were executed well. The Vikings singing “Walk Like a Man” will live long in the memory. Someone has to offer guidance to the team, write all the links and the dialogue to give it that more polished look and feel. This role was taken on by Sarah Meers, assisted by her Mum, Caz, and with a great back up team it all made for a good entertaining evening .
Well Done Broad-Way Players.
