What an enjoyable production, everyone on stage deserved to be there, participating with energy and expression.
The static black set was loaded with colours, numbers, a silver glitter curtain and was lit sympathetically.
I enjoyed the choice of music, many songs that would not immediately spring to mind for a compilation show, and each one presented in a different scenario, maintaining the ‘Numbers’ part of the title.
Choreography was extremely good, everyone kept in time, and looked comfortable doing the steps, mostly simple, but nice patterns and armogrophy, which created a look good, feel good ambience. Sarah and the cast must have worked very hard to achieve the end result.
The whole cast had a chance to be out front, and performed unfamiliar songs well, and mostly the numbers were kept short and snappy, with the whole show keeping pacey. Well done to everyone who took part.
I was particularly impressed with Connor Blowers command of the numbers in the Pajama Game song, and Charlotte Mickley sang the Flower Drum Song excerpt particularly well.
Rio Sanyari showed that she can dance well, and gained confidence over the length of the production.
There were some amusing moments – for example the men’s ballet (I particularly liked Ian Gooch’s hand placement, very balletic), always good for a laugh, interspersed with some more thoughtful and charming moments.
Good to see young Oliver Dunn participating, he shows promise and obviously enjoys being on stage.
The second song in Act 2 had difficult timing, and was difficult to pitch, but it was well done.
There were some excellent props, and costumes were suitable for each an every person and piece. I liked the on stage careful changing of costume to ensure the flow of the production was not interrupted. Everything had been well thought out and executed.
The audience participation sections were good, and overall I thought the whole cast and technical crew brought together a very enjoyable and creditable show.
My thanks to Broad-Way Players for their hospitality.
