Many amateur musical companies find it increasingly hard to put on productions featuring young people, what with the necessary supervision, safeguarding and oversight. But we’re all the better for those companies that do make the effort and Walkerville Musical Society is to be congratulated for not only putting on a youth production but also for making a success of it. The Musical Mix Up saw a talented and enthusiastic group of local youth performers delight the home-grown audience with songs, dance and humorous patter. From the youthful but charismatic compere (complete with smart suit and tie) to the youngest charmers performing in the chorus, the undoubted effort that had gone into the production paid off handsomely. The accompaniment was excellent – it was fascinating even just to watch the musicians playing their hearts out, mirroring the cast on stage in dedication and focus. I’m sure the audience will look forward to the future backbone of this company when the junior members on display mature and start to play an important part in the future of a company that deserves all the success it achieves now with a proud and exemplary tradition of above-average entertainment in Walkerville.
