Musical Memories was the title given to this tribute to Audrey Shipley , who sadly passed away in 2021 . Audrey was a stalwart of the society for many many years, joining in 1957 ,performing in many shows and directing from 1979 to 2002 .Sadly I never knew Audrey but her legacy will live on for many years to come . Credit must go to your musical director Christine who along with her mini orchestra played beautifully throughout . I particularly enjoyed the pre production number being played from the show to be featured last . The Sound of Music .
Unlike many shows this was a truly enjoyable all round ensemble production , No stars but everyone contributing to an excellent evening .
The work put in by your production and direction team shone throughout with clever staging and shaping . Very well done to Rachel and Becki . The opportunity was given to many of the team to perform their solos ,duets ,small group numbers and integrated with full ensemble numbers . The 17 strong cast complemented each other really well and of course not forgetting the young ensemble whole seamlessly slotted into many of the numbers .
There was a very touching section where members of the group read out sections of Audrey's life and involvement with High Green MTG .
During the evening ten musicals were represented , allowing the performers such a wide licence to deliver a wide range of characteristics depending on the shows represented .
High Green should be so proud that not only individual members stay for many years but also bring in family members who will hopefully form the next generation of performers .
I cannot fail to mention the truly special spectacle of seeing a stage filled with so many smiles and genuine enthusiasm throughout . How many societies could boast their youngest to be 3-4years old sharing the stage with the unique and unquestioned love of theatre shown by the ever young Harvey Kay , a mere 98 . Your society is blessed to have Harvey and let's hope they watch and learn from one so clearly talented , along with having four generations of his family on stage .
I must say how delighted I was to see a full house who all thoroughly enjoyed Musical Memories
Sylvia and I would again thank you for inviting us to this really special tribute and the hospitality given . We look forward to seeing familiar faces in your forthcoming pantomime later this year.
