It is always a pleasure to attend the Kirkcaldy G&S Summer concert and having missed the last couple through being on holiday I was especially looking forward to this visit.
With a programme that had something for everyone it was clear the audience were in for a most entertaining evening and we were certainly not disappointed.
The evening got off to a rousing start with Rhythm of Life from Sweet Charity before taking us back in time to a selection of songs from the 60 & 70s – Swingin’ with the Beatles was a particular highlight in this section.
A trip to the musicals came next with the soloists in this section in fine voice with the West Side Story section another highlight.
A selection of music from Scotland brought the first half to a close with an invitation to ‘come back again’ for the second half. A poem, Willie Wastle, was recited by David and gave a nice touch to this section.
A selection of animal songs opened the second half with a varied selection ranging from the powerful Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King to the light-hearted A Windmill in Old Amsterdam to the challenging Duet for Cats. Again, the soloists in the section were in fine voice.
All too soon the concert came to a conclusion with a selection of G&S favourites and a taste of next year’s show with Joie de vie from La Vie Parisienne.
Congratulations for a well put together programme and a most enjoyable evening. The chorus were in fine voice with harmonies blending nicely and it was obvious they were enjoying the evening just as much as the audience. Special mention to MD Peter for keeping the show moving along and for hard working accompanist Douglas at the piano.
