The Pepperpot Players – Murder Mystery

It is always a pleasure to visit The Pepperpot  Players – a small group of very enthusiastic and versatile members and versatile they had to be for this play within a play. Briefly, the plot involved the local Towns Women Guild Dramatic Societies attempt to put on a ‘who dunnit’ murder mystery but in true comedy style everything which could go wrong does - with hilarious results. The usual red herring trails, lighting faults and acting errors, forgotten dialogue, with actors waiting for prompts, scenery falling apart etc, absolute mayhem all round.  As it was a production by the Town Women’s Guild there was only one man in the cast and six women which is unusual in itself. Players taking a number of parts added to the confusion. All seven of them  were excellent and the audience loved it. We did deduce who the murderer was and right triumphed in the end. In his programme notes Duncan Tuck (Gordon) playing Inspector O’Reilly, says he “enjoys messing around on stage and it’s simply an extension of being an idiot in real life”. He must have been in his element in this production.
