As this play takes place in a church hall all that was necessary were bare walls, numerous plastic stacking chairs and a couple of small tables for the set. It reveals an AmDram group is rehearsing a play. Initially I thought the lines were rather 'flat' with overlong pauses, but as the play progressed these became less apparent. All eight of the vastly different characters were acted well from the rather dictatorial director Philip Stephens [played by Gus Sparrow] to Alan Wilson [Richard Geldard] the newest member of the group. In total contrast were young Doris Stewart [Caitlin Hood] and Phoebe Kershaw [Rosemary Gibson] ...a more mature actress. This well-written play by Philip King and John Roland has moments of side-splitting comedy in contrast to more thoughtful issues and the final denouement of the murderer came as a great surprise to me. I tend to sit back and enjoy the action rather than trying to puzzle out 'whodunnit'. The costumes were very much in keeping with the era in which the play was set. the special effets were in good hands. This was a riveting play with clues as to the identity of the murderer along with numerous red herrings. Most entertaining.
