Northallerton once again reminded their Audiences of the wonderful Musicals and Melodies that have graced the Film world over the years - some old and some new. This type of show gives everybody, regardless of age, a chance to perform in front of an audience.
We had 28 musicals and melodies, with some melodies from shows I wasn't even aware of. Each was very well choreographed by Amy Spence, and well performed by the cast. The Junior members gave us some very well done performances very confidently played.
The Show opened with a selection from Mamma Mia with Lucille Taylor as the soloist, the first half closed with Bohemian Rhapsody from We Will Rock You with Emma Browne as soloist enhancing the full company. The first half had some interesting musicals such as Can’t Help Falling in Love from All shook Up and What a Wonderful World from Dreamboats. Andrew Cunningham reminded us all of Gene Kelly when he sang Singing in The Rain and also sang in a selection from Jersey Boys with the company.
The junior members contributed very well with some suitable songs, such as Truly Scrumptious from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Yellow Submarine / Twist and Shout, Can’t Help Falling in Love /Trolls and acted and sang wonderfully in Thriller from Thriller Live, they also sang with Martin Holdsworth Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and, with Kathryn Laverick, When I Grow up from Matilda.
Janet Miles sang I Just Don’t know What to do from Dusty the Original Pop Diva. Andrea Rhodes sang solo’s in several numbers including Prologue from Little Shop of Horrors whilst Chris Donnelly gave us a very lively performance from the Buddy Holly Story with Johnny be Good. Basil Bosomworth and Lucille Taylor gave us Can’t Help Falling In Love from All Shook Up. Emily Hobbs and Sophie Walker joined David Ferry in By the Sea from Sweeney Todd, From West Side story Maria Richardson and Ben Laws-Williams gave us One Hand One Heart.
The very strong ensemble sang from Legally Blonde OMI GOD along with other numbers and from Rent Seasons of Love.
The finale comprised of those two well known numbers, You’ll Never walk Alone from Carousel. and Climb Every Mountain from Sound of Music. All the credit must go to Amy Spence and Adam Ridley who put the show together and the audiences must have gone home really satisfied hearing songs from some of the more up to date musicals interspersed with older classics. With a small orchestra it was a very enjoyable evenings entertainment. Well done Northallerton.
