CAMPS produced a traditional version of this classic pantomime duly updated and localized by a member of the cast for the benefit of the local audience – as is the custom with this genre and particularly at CAMPS! The established production team and strong cast of principals ensured a good show for the appreciative audience. It was clear that the Company has benefited from rehearsals at their new premises at the Barrhill Community Centre which must be a great boon to the Producer and MD as rehearsal time runs short as the show dates approach.
Dale Parker was cast in the role of Mother Goose aided and abetted in the jollity and fun by Dempster Slimmon and Skye Galloway as her son Jack and her daughter Jill. Philip Doole played the harsh and dignified Squire Dastardly with Alistair Dempster and Kirsty Mackie his Bailiffs (and buffoons) Danny and Fanny. The forces of good and evil were personified by Anne Hainey as the Fairy Queen and Kirsty Langfield as the Demon King and Luke McBlain appeared as the dashing Colin, the Hero of the show. The star of the show was, of course, the Golden Goose played by Bill McChesney which had a Sitter in the form of Lyndsay Cook.
The show also featured the Junior Dancers – the SCAMPS (what a good title!) and a chorus of eight Villagers with two special guests Grace Langfield as Beansprout and Eloise Doole as Cyclops.
This was a fine evening among friends and with an appreciative audience for a fine show.
