When it’s pouring outside and the wind is howling there is no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than at a Runway Panto. Mother Goose was this year’s panto and as always, the high level of performance throughout the production brought lots of laughter and fun. A strong cast of principals and an equally strong ensemble ensured all aspects of the panto were well executed! Blaire Ledgerwood-Cruikshank certainly knows how to have the audience eating out the palm of his hand. From his very first entrance to his final bow, we enjoyed all his Pantomime Dame antics and interaction with the audience, not to mention his fabulous costumes. Jill played by Rachel McDermott, and Jack played by Adam Stewart worked well together to create a loving partnership, with strong vocals and acting. New to Runway was Kyle Kline in the role of Demon Discontent. With an excellent commanding performance, he portrayed the nasty character extremely well. Simon and Dotty were fun and played by Callum Greer and Kate Devine kept us all amused. Peely and Wally played by Dayle Archibald and Neal MacCowan added to the mix with their well-managed tomfoolery. It was great see Graeme MacKay bring out his darker side which he carried off with great aplomb.
The role of Priscilla was wonderfully performed by Mark Burns, and while this was his first role in panto, I’m sure we’ll be seeing him in many more. Megan Watt, Queen Goose is a regular performer with Runway, and it is always a delight to see her tread the boards with such ease. Fairy Gossamer was played by Catherine McKenzie, and her vocal strength, and performance ability is always a real pleasure to experience. The ensemble really know how to work well as a team and this was evident in their high energy performances displaying excellent vocal ability and dancing.
The production team once again brought together a fun-filled panto, creatively using the space in The Wynd. Greg Robertson, Director and Choreographer, Nicola MacKay, assistant choreographer and Musical Director David Dunlop deserve a huge well done for their production of Mother Goose. With Claire Robertson in the role as producer, her hard work and organisational skills are evident. Another very enjoyable and heartfelt Runway panto. Thank you and well done!
