There’s something magical about enjoying a pantomime during the Christmas season, and I was thrilled to have the chance to experience the delightful production of Mother Goose. Set in the whimsical Village of Sweet Content, the fairy, wonderfully portrayed by Catherine McNamara, guided us into the enchanting world of panto with her charming and relatable character. As Mother Goose, Craig Inglis-McDonald radiated brightness and cheer, effortlessly bringing the beloved character to life. He modelled a wide range of costumes and all with great ease. Daniel Inglis-McDonald, playing Billy Goose, infused the performance with humour and brought a delightful dose of traditional panto silliness. His comedic timing was impeccable, and I especially enjoyed the lively kitchen scene, which was a standout moment. Jennifer Scott's portrayal of the Demon was menacing and richly layered, showcasing a powerful vocal performance that left a strong impression. The dynamic duo of Mother Hubbard, played by Maria Antelmi, and Miss Muffet, portrayed by Mhairi Herron, delivered a series of witty exchanges, complementing each other beautifully. Meanwhile, Jamie Porter brought an endearing innocence to the role of Jack Goose, and alongside Emily Holms as Jill, they created a charming romantic pairing. Ross White excelled as Squire Spurtle, adding his own unique flair to the character. Hackit and Maukit, played by Barbara Churcher and Ami Torrance, provided a perfect balance of cheekiness and humour, keeping the audience thoroughly entertained. Raymond Caffrey delivered a strong performance as the Judge of Gooseland, while Jessica Logan brought joy to the stage as Priscilla the Goose, delighting us with her beautiful golden eggs. The strong supporting cast contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, showcasing good singing and dancing. It was clear that the production team - Carol McLaughlan as Director, Kirsten Anne McDonald as Musical Director, and Fiona McGregor, choreographer worked seamlessly together to create an enjoyable and lively pantomime.
The video wall provided an effective backdrop, while the minimal set, clever props, and well-executed lighting and sound all contributed to the smooth flow of the production.
Overall, Mother Goose was a joyous celebration of panto, filled with laughter and festive spirit!
