There was definitely fun and games to be had with Snaith and Cowick Drama Group at their production of Mother Goose. Fun and friendship seemed to emanate from the stage as the cast took us on a journey to Gooseland to see good overcome evil and ensure everyone lived happily ever after.

Lynn Tupling as Fairy Harmony was a great contrast to the wicked Demon Discord played by Lynn Green.  Louise Barker (Colin Goose) worked well with Kate Broom (Jill), and Jill’s mean father Squire Bogey was well played by Steve Brewis. Katie Lloyd-Neilson was the lovable Goose, Priscilla, and even within the over-size costume she was able to secure the love and affection of the show’s Dame, Steve Boyce, playing the title role. Boyce was a full-on, fast-talking Dame with the most amazing array of costumes and stunning wigs. He thoroughly engaged the audience in his mission to become more beautiful, though clearly saw the error of his ways when he had neglected Priscilla. Boyce had also written the funny script and acted as consultant on the production. Clearly a man/woman of many talents!

There was some strong youth talent coming through in this society and as the script boasted not one, but two comedy duos, it was great to see them given the opportunity. Owen Broom and Liam Tupling were entertaining in their roles as Sage and Onion. Kiera Courtney Mae Smith (Molly Goose) and Alice Burton (Polly Goose) excelled at the audience participation and had the audience shouting and singing in their seats – the pair also had good diction and confident stage presence. There was strong support from Katey Wales as Queen Gander and her court of Geese who, along with the chorus, were enthusiastic throughout their various production numbers, which had been choreographed by society members Millie Barker and Seamus McEnroe. The costumes were colourful and the set and props were excellent.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening and it was clear that the performers did as well.  Congratulations to Director Lynn Tupling and all the Production Team along with the performers and everyone involved in ensuring that pantomime was alive and lively in Snaith.
