Having presented annual Christmas pantomimes for over 55 years, this Society is very much experts in this field of entertainment. And so they proved once again with this year’s panto, with superb costumes and imaginative stage settings creating a colourful spectacle for all to see, and playing a big part in the show’s success. There were surprises galore - the magic locomotive train that flew through the sky taking Mother Goose to Birdland; lots of pyrotechnic flashes; and many, many modern pop songs to regale the ear; and a most wonderful Priscilla the Goose (Jen Shearer). Ewan Campbell was in his element as Mother Goose, aided and abetted in the comedy stakes by silly-billy Ewan McDyer as Eggie her daft son, and Gillian Brown as his stupid girlfriend Shelly. The brave son (Jackie) was played with great verve by Elaine Thomson, in true Principal Boy style, and Rachel Weir partnered him as Jenny, in a sweet and charming manner. Nasty Lynn Macfarlane was the evil Raven creating havoc, but stopped by Marcus Wylie as Wally the Wizard – a Dumbledore look-alike. There was no Good Fairy, but there was a good fairy in the shape of Graeme Smith – and he played this role with relish! (Well, nobody else wanted to play the role!) Yes, the company worked its magic again, all the way to the glittering Finale.
