This 1960’s musical version of the 1940’s classic film was well presented by the society with lavish costumes and set.

Anni Moorhead got the performance off to a good start with her slick majorette routine.

Stewart Keiller gave an impressive performance as Kris Kringle that would make the most hardened sceptic ‘believe’. He was well matched by Jo Smith (Doris Walker) and, on Tuesday, by the delightful Annabelle Carmichael (Susan Walker). I am sure that Willow Heath would be equally delightful in the alternate performances. The developing romantic relationship with Doris Walker was well handled by Matt Collins (Fred Gaily) and the two worked well together. Most of the humour revolved around the zany store executive Shellhammer and this part was in the capable hands of Mark Walsh. It was good to see some talented children in addition to Annabelle in Theo Walters, Scarlett Dugmore and Archie Marks. I was also impressed by John Spencer’s singing voice in the part of R H Macy. There was some confident singing from all the principals, small ensembles and full chorus all supported by some sympathetic playing by the orchestra. There were some slick dance routines from the girls in the Rockettes group and I must mention all those cast members for adding to the story by playing a variety of parts.

Well done to you all! I certainly feel after this performance that ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas’.
