This wonderful comic opera by Edward German and Basil Hood was the choice of Grantham Singers for their spring concert and what a superb performance they gave. Elaine Bishop’s arrangements and musical direction ensured that this production had freshness and vitality whilst Martin Grant’s humorous narrative endorsed the story line. There were very accomplished vocal deliveries from the large cast who received excellent support from the competent chorus and talented orchestra. The precise and neatly executed choreography devised by Sophie Knowles contributed strong visual impact as did the stunning period costumes produced by Paula Yeomans-Hill. This was a brilliant production of an operetta which unfortunately appears to have fallen out of favour with a number of societies but can be relied upon to lift the spirits of both performers and audiences. Thank you for providing this superb entertainment!
