It's not often after over 20 years as Noda Editor and Regional Rep. l that you see an old show for the first time but that was the case when we visited Carnoustie Musical Society' production of "Meet Me In St Louis". Although I well remember the Judy Garland film in the 1940s this was my fist experience of the stage show and a most enjoyable experience it was. In the leading female role, Claire Laing was in top form with a lovely voice to put across the well-known songs of the piece and she was ably supported by Kerry Mitchell as her sister Rose. Roger Brunton was in his usual great form as the father of the family Mr Smith. Two youngsters made their mark on the production with Aimee Stanton (Tootie Smith) and Cerys Fitzgerald (Agnes Smith) both showing great promise and stage presence beyond their years - well done girls. As the maid Katie, Jane Macnamara had cultivated a delightful Irish accent which she maintained throughout the piece. As the male romantic interest, Mike Burns (John Truitt) had a nice voice but unfortunately, on the night we attended had a few microphone and intonation problems but carried the part admirably. All other principals carried out their duties in style and with some delightful choreography and harmonious chorus singing, nice touches of the on-stage piano and music box - both covered from the pit, the evening was most enjoyable.
