It is always a pleasure to take a stroll down the Lambeth way for this fun loving musical which provides a wealth of contrasting characters, great music, and an excellent script. Craig Inglis provided a first class performance as the self-assured unrefined cockney Bill Snibson who displayed no fear of his intimidating Aunt Maria, the Duchess of Dene, for taking it upon herself to teach him gentlemanly manners to make him ‘fit and proper’ as the rightful heir to the title of Earl of Hareford. Craig was well matched against Lawrie-Anne Brown as his cockney tap-dancing sweetheart Sally Smith. Both connected well in the number ‘Me and My Girl’ and in leading the company in ‘The Lambeth Walk’. In addition, Lawrie-Anne sung ‘Once You Lose Your Heart’ with great passion. As the Duchess, Anne Allan carried off the refined aristocrat with great ease and was well paired with Colin Thomas as Sir John Tremayne who shrewdly played her at her own game and often coming out on the winning side. Eleanor Mackay provided an entertaining performance as Lady Jacqueline Carstone in the drawing room with Bill in ‘You Would, If You Could’ and also with Ross Adam as the excessively refined but naive and stupid Hon. Gerald Bolingbroke. Roy McGregor added to the fun as the eccentric Solicitor, Herbert Parchester and with all remaining principals, dancers and the chorus, provided a highly entertaining evening at the theatre.
