Kidderminster Operatic & Dramatic Society – Me and My Girl
An ever popular and highly entertaining feel good show, excellently performed by KODS and thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. No matter how many times you have seen the show the songs and humour still seem to be as fresh as the first time you see it. The strong cast led by Ryan Donnell (Bill) who was outstanding and well suited by his girl (Sally) Molly Parmenter were a lovely couple. Tom Paine (Gerald) played the “camp role” and is another young talent. Unlike others I have seen in the part he did not over play it. On the night I attended Salli Hunt (Jacqui) was unable to appear so Jill Parmenter took over the role virtually at a minutes notice and there was no shortfall in her performance. If the audience had not been aware of the change we would not have known. Chris Paine (Parchester) was only slightly camp but again demonstrated his versatility with an excellent performance. Claire Hadland was an imperious Duchess and eventually after years of bickering accepted a proposal of marriage from an avuncular Sir John (Charles Combes). All the smaller roles were well played and a lovely little cameo from Daphne Knight (Lady Battersby) delighted the audience. The choreographer Cheryl Skidmore, also at the last minute, took the part of Mrs Brown. The production team, dancers, chorus, and all backstage crew should be proud of their contribution to the success of the show which ended with all on stage and the audience joined together singing, what else but, The Lambeth Walk. Oi, Oi, Oi.
