I could not detect any First Night nerves from the cast, but there were a few minor problems with the sound system. These were soon rectified. The accompaniment by the nine-piece band was suitably supportive and complementary throughout. All the named characters portrayed their roles admirably. Dave Egan and Lesley Harris worked well together in the lead parts of Bill Snibson and Sally Smith. Kate Fenn was superb as the imperious Duchess while David Taylor clearly relished his role as Sir John. His drunken scene with Mike Pinkerton [Parchester the family solicitor] was hilarious. The contribution by the chorus members was impressive with tuneful singing all round and deft footwork from the dancers in the well-rehearsed routines. The set of Hareford Hall was ideal with well-chosen props. A few of the major scene-changes seemed a trifle long but will become easier to effect. I liked the use of the Hall's servants for moving various items of furniture quietly and efficiently. This kept the action moving at a good pace. The lighting plot added to the impact of the musical nicely and the Wardrobe Department deserves praise for the excellent costumes. With great songs and light-hearted comedy this was a very enjoyable production.
