Me and My Girl is one of those ‘feel-good’ shows featuring well known toe tapping numbers complemented with great humour. As the cockney costermonger Bill Snibson who inherits Lord Hareford’s land and titles, Darren Tasker displayed great versatility in his command of the stage, displaying all the key qualities required for such a demanding role. This was equalled by Claire Fraser who was the perfect match as Sally Smith, his cockney sweetheart. Both should be commended for their well choreographed routine in ‘Leaning On A Lamp Post’ – strictly charming! Carol Sutherland was at ease as the intimidating Duchess of Dene in her efforts to make Bill “fit and proper” to assume the title of Lord Hareford and was well paired with Eric Brown as Sir John Tremayne. Graeme Scott brilliantly characterised Gerald Bolingbroke, and performed well with Shirley McNulty as the very alluring Lady Jacqueline Carstone. Kevin Byrne also provided an amusing performance as Parchester, the family solicitor. All remaining principals, dancers and the chorus added to the quality of the production. Drama, singing and choreography was excellent throughout and true credit must go to the entire company and the production team for providing a great evening’s entertainment.
