Me and My Girl

Many congratulations to Preston Musical Comedy on another great show.  Me And My Girl still holds the record as the most performed musical comedy in the history of West End theatre and to quote the London Press, ‘it is the happiest show in town’.  It is, it was and it showed. The large audience clearly enjoyed the whole experience.

The plot really needs no introduction but, from the very first note of the overture, the intention was clear – ‘we were going to be entertained’ and we were – right royally at that.

The band was good and bright and started (and continued) at a cracking pace.  Unfortunately,  I think there were a couple of sound gremlins about on the night we visited so on occasions they were a perhaps a little too loud for the voices – but that apart they did a great job with some excellent sounds – Thank you.

The scenery was stunning and many congratulations to the crew for the silent and efficient scene changes.  The costumes overall were generally stunning and the whole thing taken together produced some excellent pictures.   Choreography was good, although perhaps a couple too many extraneous choreographed numbers for my taste.

Although a relatively small chorus, every single person worked hard, and sang and danced with precision, adding to the polish and professionalism, call me old-fashioned but I much prefer the more traditional approach to Men of Hareford.

There were some simply stunning performances from the principals with great singing, superb acting and excellent characterisations which the whole audience enjoyed hugely. The whole show was a great example of teamwork – the amount of work put in by everyone connected with the show, both on stage and off, was apparent and that made this show far greater than the sum of its individual parts.          

Thank you for the usual warm and friendly welcome and I would like to extend my thanks to the whole Company for a most enjoyable evening of theatre – everyone went away humming great!
