It would be impossible not to enjoy this extremely entertaining show, full of catchy, familiar tunes and zany humour.
Teesside Musical Theatre Company certainly entertained with their well cast show.
The main character (a man for a change) is the lovely but unrefined cockney Bill Snibson who discovers that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford. He has however to gain the approval of Sir John and the Duchess. She feels that a little grooming would help the situation, and also that he will need to break up with his cockney girlfriend Sally. Billy refuses and so Sir John arranges for Sally to be groomed, she becomes more ladylike and all’s well that ends well. (My Fair Lady scenario somewhere there.)
All of the principals gave very good performances. Anthony Chisman did credit to the demanding role of Bill and Rebecca Dale was a charming Sally. Andrea Dalton was perfect as the demanding Duchess with wonderful stage presence and beautiful clear delivery of lines. We can always be assured of a fine performance from Ken Horsley and he didn’t disappoint. There was a fine performance from Sally Emmerson as Jackie and her attempt to seduce Bill was a hoot. Roy Thompson was a loveable Gerald in love with Jackie, Steve McNichol gave us a delightful light footed performance as the family solicitor Parchester, and by no means least there was excellent support from a very enthusiastic chorus,.
The use of back projection instead of heavy back cloths worked very well and made for a much smoother transition from one scene to the other.
Alison Dale did an excellent job as Director as did Geoff Foxall as Chorus Master and John Milgate as Musical Director. Thank you for what was a most enjoyable evening.
