This show full of well known music and delightful characters was a good choice for this company, allowing both the younger and more senior members to showcase their talents. Young Luke Cockram (Bill Snibson) was excellent maturing easily from cheeky chappy in “Me and My Girl” to love-lorn man in “Leaning on a Lamp Post”. Michelle Mirams (Sally Smith) was well matched as Bill’s love interest and I particularly liked her rendition of “Once You Lose Your Heart”. Julie Gray (Lady Jaqueline Carstone) and Keith Ewen (The Hon Gerald Bolingbroke) made the most of the comedy in their roles, Lady Jaqueline particularly in her “You Would If You Could” number with Bill. Davina Smith (Maria, Duchess of Dene) was suitably haughty as mistress of all she surveyed. John Carson (Sir John Tremayne) was a joy as the sympathetic foil to the Duchess. Douglas Clark (Parchester) – no relation – brought his natural comic talents to the part making the audience laugh at his every appearance. The chorus, whether on stage as upper class guests, servants or cockneys, sang and moved well and all seemed to be enjoying themselves which came across well to the audience. This was Ken Smith’s first foray into production and he and the company are to be congratulated on a very enjoyable show.
