This was an excellent, tight, well rehearsed show. The set was good, with very effective cloths and smooth scene changes. The costumes were fabulous and added colour and vibrancy to the show.
David Bruce was excellent as Bill Snibson. A good mover, he had all the cheekiness required for the part, and he had worked hard at the various tricks associated with the character. He was ably partnered by Clare Douglass as Sally Smith. She played a great cockney character with a well sustained accent. She sang well and really looked the part. Helen Eltringham was perfect as Lady Jacqueline. Slim, leggy and vampy, she played a fabulous character.
Margaret Gray, as Duchess Maria, and Alan Thompson, as Sir John, made an excellent couple, with great chemistry. Margaret was suitably haughty and domineering, while Alan provided us with a softer and cuddlier aristocrat. I must say that I absolutely loved David Wilkinson as Parchester “ the family solicitor.” He was appealing and humorous and captivated the character perfectly, without making it a caricature.
The chorus looked and sounded great, and I must commend the men for playing so many parts. This was a bright and cheerful show with a feel good factor. Well done everyone.
