What a wonderful evening we had watching SONG’S production “Many Sides of Song”. We were treated to a program in three parts which was full of splendid singing, great choreography performed with precision by the cast and some very skilful comedy acting. The whole cast appeared to be enjoying themselves immensely putting lots of energy and enthusiasm into their performances. I would love to mention everyone in the cast but unfortunately due to the numbers involved it will not be feasible and as everyone played their part and performed excellently it would be difficult to single people out and I would hate to miss anyone.
The first section called Cabaret was directed by Hilary Thomson with choreography by Jenny Birch and Hayleigh Griffin, the show opened with the cast performing Queen’s “Don't Stop Me Now”, other musical numbers in this section included the song “With You “from the musical Ghost, and Andrew Lloyd Webbers, “Unexpected Song” other songs included in this section were some very well-known Disney Numbers.
Section 2 was directed by Karen Edge and included an eclectic mix of musical numbers from various musicals and films, such as “Matilda”. “Me and My Girl” “Chicago”, “The Sound of Music” and others all performed with assurance and with excellent interpretation
The first part of Section 3 was a performance of a very funny one act comedy play called “Streuth” directed by Paul Edge. We were told that the play should have been performed by adults but due to circumstances beyond their control members of SONG had to step in at the last minute. The plot was a murder mystery but unfortunately everything went wrong from repeated lines. scenery falling down, entrances from the wrong side and corpse picking up dropped papers. The cast performed splendidly with maturity and superb comic timing that would be the envy of many adult performers, the play was fast and slick and was very well received by the audience. This section continued with lovely dancing to Moon Dance and more songs from various shows including “For Good “and “I’m not that Girl” from “Wicked”, “Fight The Dragon” from “Big Fish”, with more dancing to “Do Your Thing” and three songs from Le Miserable all directed by Karen Edge with choreography by Jenny Birch and Musical Direction by Charles Moss. The show concluded with “When You're an Addams” from the “Addams family” which was a taster from SONG’s next production.
Congratulations to all involved in this outstanding production, to all the technical team, backstage crew, the innovative costumes (Karen Fairclough), Directors’ Choreographers and Musical Directors this was a great evening's entertainment in three parts each one as good as the other, performed by some very promising young talent. Thank you for inviting us, hope to see you for your next production
