The new 'Cabaret' style venture for the Company was one of hope, but also trepidation. When using a table seating plan and you lose seats on the floor, it has to be hoped that added drinks sales will make up the lost ticket revenue. With fingers crossed for success and with top notch entertainment there was no doubt in my mind they were on to a winner. The show in three parts was made up of numbers from a massive selection of musicals. MD Derek Calder had given massive input with his vocal and band arrangements and obvious hours of rehearsals of the harmonic company numbers. Opening with a great Sondheim classic 'Putting It Together' and finishing with the well known 'No Business Like Show Business' was only two of the appropriate choices for this very versatile group. The programme was filled with a fantastic collection of old and contemporary show songs as solos, duets and choruses, giving experienced stalwarts, new faces and talented youngsters an opportunity to shine. Some of the highlights of the evening came from the musicals Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Rent, Jekyll & Hyde and Wicked, to name but a few. The two youngsters, each owning their solos from Annie and Les Miserable, have to be commended. New soloist in the company, Stuart, proved that he was not only vocally accomplished but a good mover too. The whole evening was colourful and slick with a quality orchestra drawn from talented local musicians. For me, I felt the table seating worked very well and I hope your income reflects that. Well Done!
