This was a well balanced concert programme with something for everyone in the audience. There were some excellent arrangements which allowed the chorus to showcase their skills in harmony singing. There is a lot of depth in the individual talents in this group and this was evidenced by some well presented solos and ensembles. There were fine contributions from the usual stalwarts of the society and also from a group of very talented children. We have come to expect involvement of children and once again we were not disappointed with their musical numbers. When there is such a focus on the quality of the singing it is easy sometimes to forget that it is important to lighten the mood. That wasn’t the case here as there were a few humorous numbers in the programme. The company made a very impressive sound in particular with the opening (Circle of Life) and closing (One Day More) items of the concert. They also handled Stephen Sondheim’s tricky music very well in ‘The Ballad of Sweeney Todd’ from their next production.
Plenty of hard work but it certainly paid off. Well done to everyone!
