Tonight was a mixture of laughter and pathos all performed with understanding and compassion by a talented cast.

This play is a snapshot of a family with an Alzheimer diagnosis. It spans 1 year and highlights the problems they face.

The cast of 5 were all excellent in their roles. Susan Murphy as Maggie gave an outstanding portrayal of the Mum with this devastating diagnosis. She was well supported by George Docherty as Gordon the husband, who was coping with his wife’s illness and his own recovery from a stroke by using the songs of their youth to focus her thinking. Excellent singing George. The son Michael and his girlfriend Claire played by Mike Burns and Kim Brymer, demonstrated how this condition affected their relationship. It takes understanding and talent to tackle roles like this and they worked well together.

Last but not least was the best friend Jo (Nikki Doig). As the comedian of the situation her jokes were delivered with confidence and style while the love of her friend shone through. Again a performance of a high standard.

This story has a personal connection for me and moved me to tears on numerous occasions throughout the night. It was exceedingly well written with enough humour to lighten the story.

Mention must be made to the design of the set and the use of music and special light effects. All enhanced the story and completed the package. Finally it takes a deal of courage to tackle a play with this type of content and when the result is as excellent as this was special congratulations must go the producer/director Carolyn Cheape. I hope you and Carnoustie Theatre Club are proud of what you have achieved. You deserve to be!
